Edward Medard Park near sunset by DroneVU StudiosDroneVU Studios continues its popular “Picture of the Day” series with this picture of Edward Medard Park near sunset. DroneVU Studios is a professional drone videography and drone photography company based in Tampa Florida and we love filming nature, wildlife, and promoting the local parks in our spare time.

About Edward Medard Park

Originally called Pleasant Grove Park and Reservoir, Edward Medard Park underwent many transformations before it was donated to The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) in 1969 by a mining company. In 1972, Hillsborough County signed an agreement with the District to develop the site as one of the County’s largest regional parks.

Among its main attractions is a 700-acre reservoir used for canoeing, boating, and catch and release fishing. Also included is a 3-mile trail that offers equestrians, hikers, and bird watchers a pleasant trip through pine flatwoods and hardwood hammocks.

The park also has a disc golf course for those Frisbee enthusiasts who want to enhance their disc-throwing skills, while the beach volleyball court provides the players a scenic view of the sunset. Edward Medard Park also offers picnic shelters, a boardwalk, a playground for the kids, and an observation platform overlooking the reservoir.

Campers can stay overnight at one of the 40 first-come, first-serve campsites that accommodate both RV and tent camping, including two youth group sites. All campsites have a picnic table, electricity, a fire ring, and water. Public restrooms with showers and an RV dump station are also available.

Upper Tampa Bay Park – Album Published

Aerial Photograph of Upper Tampa Bay Park

DroneVU studios went on location to Upper Tampa Bay Park located at 8001 Double Branch Road 6044 Fishhawk Cr, Tampa, FL 33635  to obtain some more great aerial photographs and aerial video of another Florida attraction.

At Upper Tampa Bay Park visitors may see gopher tortoises, zebra swallowtail butterflies and even bobcats. Shallow fresh water ponds throughout Upper Tampa Bay Park provide habitat for aquatic plants and animals and improve drainage for the surrounding areas. Live oaks and other hardwood trees often grow near these wetlands, where redshouldered hawks and bald eagles are sometimes seen.

As the Park ground slopes gently toward the bay, the pines and palmettos give way to palm trees, shrubs and grasses that can survive occasional flooding. Closer to the shoreline, visitors may see a strip of sand devoid of all vegetation; this is a salt barren. High tidal water gets trapped here and evaporates, concentrating salt in the soil and limiting plant life; yet some life, such as fiddler crabs, thrives here. Beyond the salt barren lies the shoreline, occupied almost exclusively by mangroves and salt marsh grasses. The shoreline and waters attract Park wildlife and many other species, including roseate spoonbills, ospreys, otters, bottle nosed dolphins and manatees.

John Chestnut Park – Album Available

John Chestnut Park Aerial Photographs

DroneVU Studios went on location to John Chestnut Park located at 2200 East Lake Road Palm Harbor, FL 34685 to film another segment of the Landmark Series.

John Chestnut Park is home to various wildlife including raccoons, alligators, various waterfowl, hawks, vultures, tortoises/turtles and more.

Lake Tarpon, immediately adjacent, is five miles long and one mile wide, generally 8-12 feet deep. Lake Tarpon can accommodate boats with combustion engines. Additionally, a canoe trail is a landlocked waterway connected to an interior lake, but can only accommodate non-combustion engines.

For those who prefer sports, a softball field—bring your own equipment. There are three nature trails, each approximately 3,000 feet in length. The North Trail begins at Shelter #10, running through a cypress swamp to the canoe trail—it does not loop back. The Peggy Park Trail features a self-guided. The elevated boardwalk runs along the boat ramp, leading to an elevated lookout tower for a scenic overview of Lake Tarpon. Swimming is prohibited inside the park.
